Parenting for Success! Improving Behaviors Using a Proactive Mindful Model
This signature course developed by Dr. Patterson is a 2-part series providing a deep look at the fundamental scientific principles for understanding and changing difficult behaviors at the earliest possible stages. The discussion integrates key components of Mindful awareness as a crucial tool to guide the behavior change process. Participants will learn practical and proven strategies that can be applied immediately to increase the behaviors you WANT to see. This course is a recommended prerequisite for "Introduction to Functional Behavior Assessment," as well as for families interested in Parent Coaching services.
Session 1: "Where are these behaviors coming from?!?" - Deconstructing the building blocks of behaviors
Section 2: "If I could just get my child to LISTEN!" - Reconstructing the behavioral building blocks for success
"Why Does My Child INSIST On Pushing My Buttons?" - Developing Tailored Intervention Plans Using the Functional Assessment Model
It is important to understand why “one-size-fits-all” approaches to dealing with difficult behaviors are often ineffective. This course provides a model for defining specific behavior patterns in order to strategically guide positive change. Discussions include the importance of asking "why does my child continue to behave this way” and “what is it about this behavior that is working for him/her?” By learning to ask and answer these questions using objective data, parents are better prepared to develop more effective intervention plans tailored to the child’s specific behaviors and needs. A step by step problem-solving model is provided for parents to practice and begin using regularly at home.
